Walking on Broken Glass

“His therapist says I need to be more understanding.”

“His therapist says I trigger him.”

“Her therapist says I have a personality disorder.”

“Their therapist says that I’m abusive too.”

These are only a few of the things that I’ve heard from my clients about their abuser’s therapists. About you. Whether you’re saying these things or not, we have no control over what our clients say after they’ve left the therapy space.

Don’t want to be another weapon in an abuser’s arsenal? I’m here to help.

There are community systems in place to support DV advocates, but as private and group practice therapists it’s our responsibility to seek out that support for ourselves.

Some things we might touch on in our consultation are identifying common abusive red flags, challenging popular myths about perpetrators, gaining clinical insight into the abusive mindset, and addressing the legal and ethical mismatch that arises when working with partner-abusive clients. You will come away with a concrete plan of action for how to ethically protect and advocate for your client's abused partners, an understanding of state laws, a thorough and accurate informed consent, a list of local and national resources, and suggested readings.

One hour consultation: $150 OR name your fee. The risk of doing harm is too great for us to be doing this work without proper training and peer support. I look forward to hearing from you!
